Dates

Sunday 7 June 2026

Description

A one-day trip from Aberdeen to the Burghead-Hopeman area of the Moray Firth coast. Excellent exposures of Triassic fluvial and Permian Rotliegend sediments analogous to hydrocarbon reservoirs and
potential CO 2 stores in the East Irish Sea and the North Sea. We shall look at heterogeneity at a number of scales and the challenges in upscaling them to facilitate the forecasting of production and storage
behaviour.

Excursion Site:
Coastal exposures along the Moray Firth Coast between Burghead and Lossiemouth.

Topics include:
– Identification of different fluvial and aeolian rock types and their storage and flow characteristics.
– Architecture and upscaling of the rock types at a number of scales.
– Implications for production and storage forecasting.
